How do I name and shape my community?

Your community's name and description are edited on one page: Community, then Welcome. Settings, then Community sends you to the same page with its Edit in Welcome link. It is what a new member sees when they arrive.

Updated 24 September 2026

Nothing you type here reaches a member until you press Save changes, and you can change any of it again afterwards.
  1. Open Community, then Welcome

Open Community in the left menu. Welcome sits low down, under Configure, which is why most people don't find it. It's what somebody sees when they arrive, before they've joined.

Community, then Welcome. It sits below Games in that column.

  2. Name it, then say what it's for

The top box is the name members see. The box under it is your welcome message, and it's also what your AI draws on when it writes in your voice later.

The name on top. Underneath, what it is about.

  3. Say what you want different, press Refine

Say what's wrong in one sentence — make it warmer, or say it's for women over fifty — then press Refine. Press Speak to say it aloud instead of typing.

Say what you want different, or speak it. Then press Refine.

  4. Press Save changes, and read it back

Press Save changes to make it live. Beside the boxes is a preview, with a button to open the live page. Start over, at the foot, redoes the guided setup.

Nothing is live until you press Save changes.

You will know it worked when your community has a name and description you chose, saved, and read back the way a member sees them.

Can I approve new members before they get into my community?

Yes. Switch on approval and anyone who asks to join waits in a Requests list in Members until you let them in, the way a private LinkedIn or Facebook group works. People you invite, and people who pay, still go straight in. About five minutes to set up.

Can I change a member's post before I approve it?

No. A post waiting for your approval can only be approved or rejected, so you cannot change a member's words. If a few words need changing, approve it and add a comment, or message the member and reject it.

Can I check comments before they go up?

Turn on comment approval and every member comment waits for you. It's a separate switch from the one for posts.
